1) Question or A Prompt:

How can technology help accentuate dance movements?

I am interested in further developing the concept of technology in fashion and looking further into 3D printing. I am interested in this because I have recently been following up with Iris Van Herpen’s work. Her work amuses me and I think it’s interesting how she incorporates technology and science into her designs. I am also interested in costume design. I would like to design salsa costumes.  I have done salsa flats before and I found it fun and exciting. However, I have never made salsa costumes nor have I worked with mesh or sequins. I would like to make salsa costumes because I have been into social dancing lately. Not only is it fun but it is also great to meet and interact with new people.

2) A list of Outcomes (Expected/Completed):

One of my expected outcomes is a collection of 3d printing. I am interested in making the tone of my work as couture 3d printing fashion. Some skills I need to learn and master is how to operate a 3d printer and learn how to use other apps that come along with it. For the costumes, I will be either creating mod boards or tech packs before sewing the garments. I will have to research the fabric and learn how to work with them like using the sewing machine or hand sewing. The tone will be more like custom made. It will be a collection specifically for performing dancers.

3D printing: I will have to contact the engineering department to access to the 3d printer. 

I could also invest in a home 3d printer but I will have to learn how to use it.  

Costume: I can ask my family for help. They can teach me how to work with different fabrics and other sewing techniques. I can search for fabric at the fashion district in DTLA.

5) A list of Experiments / Innovations / Challenges:

Some problems I may encounter is financial and time problems for the 3d printing. I’m not sure if I will have time to learn how to use the printer well enough to start on my projects. This technique has been done by other students but not by fashion students at csula, or that I know

6) A list of Ideas about the Portfolio:

I would like to present this on a blog or have an exhibition at the Fine Arts Gallery. I am trying to reach the younger generation who are also involved and amused by technology. Or also those individuals who are mesmerized by the innovative make-up looks in the show Euphoria.
